Letter from the Pastor – May 2024

Dear Church,

I hope this email finds you all well. As you may know, we are now just a few weeks away from our All-Church visioning retreat. On Saturday, May 11th, from 10 am – 3 pm we will gather at the church for a time of fellowship, worship, and discussion about our life together at Central Woodward Christian Church, what God is calling our congregation to be, and what that might look like in the future. I am looking forward to this time together, and I hope you all can attend.

If you are interested, please take some time to fill out this survey:

Your responses will help to guide our conversations at the retreat. If you are not able to attend the retreat, you are still encouraged to fill out the survey. As a member or friend of this congregation, I would be interested in your thoughts.

I am also including links to a couple of resources that have given me a lot to think about in the lead up to this retreat. The first is a conversation I attended with former Disciples of Christ General Minister and President, Dick Hamm, and hosted by Disciples’ New Church Ministry. While Central Woodward is not a new congregation, it is a church in transition, and as such, I felt that this conversation had lots to think about for a church in visioning process. That video can be found here: https://youtu.be/n85lGlmZH0w

The other resource is a blog post by United Church of Christ minister Lillian Daniel. It encourages congregations to think differently about what their church’s mission is and how they show up in their community. It is a good read: “The Church That Does X” (constantcontact.com)

My hope is that these resources, as well as the survey, will provide us a good “jumping off” point as we take the dive into crafting a future vision for Central Woodward Christian Church.

Peace and blessing on the journey,

Pastor Zach Martin
