What to expect
We understand that going to a new place can be a challenge. We have put together a quick reference guide to help ease some of your initial questions. If you still have any questions, please call the church office at (248) 644-0512 Monday and Wednesday 9-2, or you can email us at office@centralwoodwardchristian.com. We look forward to welcoming you!
Where is Central Woodward Christian Church?
We are located at the Southeast corner of Big Beaver Road and Adams (3955 W. Big Beaver Road) in Troy, MI. If you’re coming from the East, we’re on your left. From the West, it’ll be on the right. You’ll find the entrance right off the circle drive, just to the west of the parking lot.
What time are Services?
Worship Sunday’s, starts at 10:30 am. There is plenty of room, but it’s always good to be here about ten to fifteen minutes before the service starts so you can get acclimated. If you have children, we have a nursery for the younger ones, and children’s church time for the older ones — through age 12.
What to Wear?
There isn’t a dress code – some people dress up in suits and dresses, others come in jeans. The point is, dress in a way that is appropriate for you to worship God. Whatever you wear, you will be welcome.
When You Arrive
When you arrive at Central Woodward you will be greeted at the door by our volunteer greeters. We hope that you will feel welcomed. You will likely be directed to our guest book which you are invited to sign, if you would like. Next to that, on the wall, is a rack that contains a visitors information packet, as well as other useful pamphlets and handouts. There is also a sign in book in the pews, which you can sign, along with all the other worshipers. Upon entering the sanctuary, you will receive a bulletin which outlines the order of worship for the service. An asterisk (*) indicates the times when the congregation stands during the service.
A Word about the Lord’s Table
Something that is unique about the Disciples of Christ among Protestant churches, is the practice of weekly communion. It is a very important part of our worship. We believe that this is the table of Jesus and not our table. Because it was his practice to invite everyone to share in meals with him, everyone is invited to participate in communion. On some Sundays we take communion by passing a tray containing gluten free bread and small cups of grape juice. Take and eat the bread, and then take the cup to share together with the congregation. On other Sundays we may take communion by intinction. On those Sundays you will be invited to come forward to receive communion. You will be invited to take a piece of bread, dip it into the juice, and then return to your seat.
