A Bible Lecture by Dr. Ron Allen

The Life of Jesus for Today –

A Bible Lecture by Dr. Ron Allen

Central Woodward Christian Church of Troy – October 9-10, 2010

Who is Jesus?  And why is it important for us as Christians to think about Jesus in the 21st century?  These are the kinds of questions that Dr. Ron Allen, Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Th. Miller Professor of Preaching and New Testament at Christian Theological Seminary of Indianapolis, will address in a series of presentations to be held at Central Woodward Christian Church (at Big Beaver and Adams) of Troy on Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10.   This lectureship is based on Ron’s recent book entitled The Life of Jesus For Today (WJK Press, 2008), and it will take participants on a journey that begins by raising the questions of relevance for today, and then takes them through the life of Jesus, from his birth, through his ministry, on to his death, and then culminating in his resurrection.

Day One of the two day event runs from 9-2 on Saturday, October 9th.   This set of presentations will focus on the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke).   There will be a $10 registration fee that will cover the costs of the lectureship and a light lunch.   The lectureship will continue on Sunday morning during the Church school hour (9-10 AM), when Ron will turn his focus to the Gospel of John.  Ron will then preach on a text from the Gospel of Mark during the Sunday morning.

Ron is an ordained Disciple pastor, teacher, preacher, and the author of a number of books, including his recent A Faith of Your Own (WJK, 2010); Preaching and the Other (Chalice 2009); Thinking Theologically: the Preacher as Theologian (Fortress, 2008).   Ron is in Michigan to lead a workshop for preachers in Lansing on the Thursday and Friday prior to this event.   Although he is a highly regarded teacher of preachers, he is also a very popular bible teacher who regularly leads in-depth bible studies for church groups – like the one being planned for CWCC and the broader community.    Copies of his books will be made available for purchase.

For more information or to pre-register for the Saturday presentation, please call the CWCC office at 248-644-05122 or email the office at cwccoffice@sbcglobal.net.

Note:  There will be a $10 fee which includes a light lunch.    Please RSVP by Saturday October 2, ($15 at the door).   Indicate your meal preference (meat or vegetarian).
