Central Woodward Christian Church is hosting a concert and photo exhibit that celebrates our diversity, with a special emphasis on the call to be a place of welcome and support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community. The event is being held at CWCC on June 21st at 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 6:00 PM
The photo exhibit includes two separate displays. The first is entitled “Love Makes A Family,” which displays portraits of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People and their Families. This exhibit shows the love, caring, and connection that is central to the lives of LGBT families, even as they are central to the lives of all families. “Love Makes a Family” contributes to the process of dismantling the destructive power of prejudice and intolerance, thus making the world a safer place for all people.
Even as many churches and places of worship struggle with how to fully include LGBT persons of faith in the life of the church and society, it is helpful to picture LGBT persons of faith engaged in worship and leadership in the church and other faith communities. “We Have Faith,” the second display of photos, enables viewers to see LGBT people of faith in service to church and community and read their stories. “We Have Faith” will be a powerful sign of hope to many who seek to find faith communities that will welcome them as full contributors to the life of the congregation..
In addition to the photo exhibit, CWCC welcomes The Detroit Together Men’s Chorus (DTMC) to share a concert starting at 7:00 pm. The event is free to the public, a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the work of the Ruth Ellis Center, which works with at-risk LGBT youth. Childcare will be provided for those under age five.
